mother of eff. as it turns out my accountant used the wrong form. instead of the 1040 she should have used the "amended form" the 1040X**
of course, i learned all this AFTER i effing went and did the certified mail thing to roseann effing mercer of OSI collection service. (she in turn called up my accountant and sassed them. i called my accountant to let them know what the what was and they said "that mercer woman is quite nasty, we asked if she could work with the forms and the info off of that until we sent another and she snapped at us")

(of course, she's not quite as son-of-a-bitchy as "ken" from north eastern asset recovery was to me, although she's up there.)
** i still shouldn't owe anything - all they have to do is slap it on the amended form
