i am back! *whew* it is actually great to be back in the office - seriously.
frightening that i actually missed working.
here's the scoop, folks...
thursday i picked mom up from the hospital... there were a lot of tests done on tues and weds... her PFTs (pulmonary function test) were at 52% - i don't care if you can't "do" math... any way you slice it, 52% is just not good. so, we escaped the hospital and mom's evil roommate, Hazel, yes, that was her name - she was an old bitty who kept waking mom up at 3, 4, 5 am asking her to bring her a towel or turn off the AC or close the blinds.. eh, mom was not exactly fit to do this stuff - she was supposed to be laying there sucking in oxygen and sleeping off the pneumonia... but she helped out "hazel"
poor mom.
anyway... the nicotine fits have begun.. and let me tell you - 50 years of smoking between 2 - 4 packs a day... they are NOT pretty... i suggested that mom try a different habit - her liver is pretty good, perhaps alternating weeks between habits would get her mind off the ciggies...
week 1 - alcoholism
week 2 - shopping addiction
week 3 - gambling
week 4 - sex addiction (but she may crave a smoke after each session - that's the drawback to that)
week 5 - overeating
week 6 - try getting hooked on heroine.
that's my plan for her.
anyway - she's feeling better - the pneumonia is pretty much done - but she's on antibiotics/antimicrobials for that... the chronic bronchitis is doing better and if she would just lay the eff off the smokes, she'll be able to get a bit more use out of her lungs.
she's taken 4 or 5 puffs on one cigarette over the course of 26 hours... and i have asked her to sit outside when she does that and to brush her teeth afterward so she doesn't taste it - (the sitting outside deal is so that she can't just sit in the la-z-boy and chain smoke without thinking about it...)
anyway - am not stressing it too much to her otherwise she'll balk.
got her a bunch of candies and stuff for the mouth... good ol' oral fixation thing.
had to get her prescriptions filled - she only got 6 of the 8 filled - mom doesn't have a prescription plan... effing crap insurance they have at her company...
all i can say is thank god the credit union decided to give me a credit card - i had said i would only use it in emergencies.. unfortunately, this was one.
stupid prescriptions... the total - get this - wound up being (and this sickened me)... $324.68
you have to be kidding me...
i am thankful that they wound up NOT putting her on oxygen at home - that would have been ridiculously expensive.
so much for getting my credit back to rights.
