oh so today. really quick before i hit the hay...
drove up to hoboken... took the PATH to 33rd... (if i get the job the gig is only a block from penn station) and dealt with the driving rain...
i got to the place - in a decent building (with nice security) - and met with the creative director... she was great! seemed really keen. then she brought in the other sr. art director (i would have the same title according to the recruiter) and she was awesome (there i go... spewing 90's exclamitory words) then the creative director came back & wanted me to meetup with the head of interactive - but she was in a meeting... but the creative director said "you are a perfect fit for us. i just have to talk to the recruiter and figure out salary and the good stuff"
um... not for nothing, but in my 34 years on this planet.... that is not a bad statement!
so the recruiter lost my references and i got the message about that tonight - so i had to shoot them over there... hopefully none of my refs have turned on me :)
after the interview i met up with cathy - who i haven't seen since june 5th... - we had a couple of pints at mustang sally's (love their french onion soup!) and i had beef & stout pie *yum!*
unfortunately, i had to hit the road at 7:30ish... got to the PATH train and the doors had closed and i was the only one on the platform... miraculously the doors opened again for me... i like when that happens. a lot of times there's some jackass who's playing god with the doors.
oh! on the PATH train before the interview, i had just sat down and was reading a paragraph of my book when an older gentleman sat down 2 seats from me... and said to me "You look like a woman who enjoys the theatre"
that took me aback - but i answered "yes. i do." giving him a quizzical look.
anyway he starts talking about a play he's written (now, this fella is pushing 80) and how it's in production til december and how he would like to give me 2 free tickets to see it on any sunday from now til dec.
it's called Angel Maker.
the thing that stopped me from ignoring him and yessing him to death like i usually do with people who start odd conversations with me on trains was he began to explain what the play is about...
and it's about "being at the right place at the right time" and also about guardian angels.
now here's the thing. i am a big believer in guardian angels. seriously.
(remind me to tell you about Reverend Zombie's VooDoo Shop in new orleans and how the psychic slipped into a trance and told me about my guardian angel which he described to a tee as my grandmother who died when my dad was 9....)
then the guy asked my name so he could put it on the certificate i have to present to the box office or whatever and said "ah, are you irish?"
yep.
so he asked if he could recite a poem that his old irish poet mother wrote and it was really quite nice... not about ireland, but about a woman in the jungle. but it was cool nonetheless.
he then asked if i believed people could be int he right place at the right time and i said "of course"... he asked me what i do for a living and i said i am a web designer, but am in fact on my way to an interview.
he wished me luck and said he felt that i would get it. cool.
then he asked if i draw. and i explained how i am also an illustrator. so then he said "would you be interested in illustrating a children's book?"
um. yes. that's only my dream.
so then he said "see. the right place at the right time. guardian angels are all around" and winked at me.
for some reason i didn't want to stop chatting - usually i am totally uncomfortable... really.
he started to tell me the children's book idea he had - which unfortunately sounded quite similar to my favourite book ever, The Giving Tree.
i didn't have the heart to tell him that.
anyway, he asked me to call him to discuss the book more and wants to go 50/50 on any profits - he would sell it at his shows and a few other places.
i just remember he had these really bright, happy eyes... just really happy.
it was a great day all-around.... even if it was pouring sheets of rain.
(okay maybe that wasn't a "quick" entry. now i am hitting the hay)
