ahhhh, the show was pretty keen last night... my friends erin and cathy (who'd never met) went with me, we were seated front row stage right. both were like "we really don't want to sit in the front row - we'll get picked on"
of course, i said "nah, you can barely see over here, when i'm up there, i never even look over this far. you're safe"........................
keith anthony emcee'd (he was in the hbo audition with me), first thing he does after being onstage for 4 seconds is hone in on erin... asks where she's from. she thought he was talking to cathy. cathy thought he was talking to cathy, so cathy answered "here" and so the guy started mocking them about cathy being controlling or something etc etc. needless to say, they were a bit miffed for a second about that (hey... i didn't know! i didn't know that every effing comic up there would use the entire width of the stage and actually move around!)
Mark Riccadonna was first up - i've never seen him before, but I really dug his set... ted alexandro was next - i may have to say that he might very well have been my favourite. then greg giraldo performed (i've liked greg's stand-up for years now, and he still rocked - it's a toss up between him and ted...) then some guy - i am not going to say his name... A) because he was absolutely godawful and was so effing loud, doing these "club music noises" - it's like, pal, i got it the first 5 seconds, don't fill your set with screaming into the mic and turning around shaking your ass for the next 5 min. and B) i blocked his name from my memory.
next up was nicole korkolis, whom has emcee'd when i was in the line-up once when i did the pro show and then the night of the hbo gig. i like her. she's pretty damned funny.
after her keith came out again and then knocked the improv site off the wall by mistake (not good.)
then dave attell did a set, awesome. okay, so i like ted, greg and dave best. it's a toss-up... but he rocked, too... good stuff all around...
then they brought up pati vitale - who the benefit was for - and she did her set and then the night was over...
er, cath and i had to hit the ladies' room, so we used the one in the bar area that not many realize is there... in line behind me was keith anthony and the horrid comic. i said to keith "hey, how're ya? we were in the showcase a couple of months ago. you did well tonight" and then i noticed horrid comic looking pleadingly at me and i mumbled a pathetic "eh, you too." and then scuttled into the lavatory.
and that was that... headed home and watched survivor's finale (dvr, i love you) and was disappointed.
