okay...around thanksgiving, i went to a new dentist for the first time (hence, the "new" title) - the place was kamy dental in toms river... because the dentist whose practice it is, his last name is kammerman or something.
so, that day (see previous post) there was the x-ray/cleaning mix-up that already kinda started this dental relationship off on a bad foot.
i didn't tell you guys that the doctor that runs the place wound up NOT being my dentist. instead i had some woman in a burqua come in and tap my teeth with metal and then introduce herself as my dentist.
eh.
okay - now, i am not trying to be racist here. so, even though i didn't have a good feeling about this, i still dealt with her as my dentist.
i had to go back the next week to have a cavity drilled, filled and fixed.
here's the thing. after another dental fiasco 8 years ago (okay, first off, i USED to love going to the dentist - i had a fantastic dentist for about 15 years and nary a cavity. and then... at the age of 50 he dropped dead of a frigging heartattack...)
so, 8 or so years ago, i went to the dentist in NYC (see THIS post) where he went crazy on my molar on the top left
coincidentally, the SAME molar that needed drilling in november...
okay - so since the NYC dentist incident i have been very skitterish about dentists. i have always needed the nitrous oxide... and now more than ever i do
so, going back to dr. burqua... she says "oh, that's just a crutch, you don't need that"
"yes. yes i do"
fine, so, here's the skinny, i know this is going to be a long post - grab a drink....
that day, my appointment was the last one of the afternoon - at 4pm... they were all in a rush.
she fumbles with the nitrous mask... and turns it on... except, i really didn't feel anything... so i was a bit freaked out. and i told her - and she said "i have it on high"... the thing was i was not calm....
and she stuck a ton of novacaine in my gums... and yet, i COULD STILL FEEL THE DRILL
my body has never shaken that much in my life. it was awful.... awful. and i did not feel like one normally feels from nitrous... i felt nothing calming
okay ----- cut to the second cavity visit a week later... i made the appointment and made sure there'd be nitrous.
i get there - taking a day from work again - and the doctor says "oh there's a root canal going on so you can't have the nitrous today - you don't need it anyway"
i said "are you kidding? do you remember me last week when i was supposedly ON the nitrous?? by the way, i seriously doubt it was on. i am going to reschedule"
meanwhile the first tooth that she'd worked on was killing me...
so i did for a week or two later. that time they put the nitrous on me ... and the male dental assistant, i heard him talking to the Burqua saying "no, you're doing it wrong, you only have oxygen pumping through that that way. you have to turn the nitrous valve on as well..."
so, then the nitrous was on and i was f*cking flying on it... and it was NOTHING like the first one.
afterward i said to her "there's no way in hell that you had the nitrous on during the first tooth you worked on" (and they didn't charge me for the nitrous during this visit --- like they did the first visit)
seriously - she was an ass.
so here's the kicker that was beginning or mid december.... a month later here i am --- both fucking fillings are loose and i am in SOOOOO much pain it's unbearable... seriously, the only good thing about this is i don't want to eat or drink anything because the shooting stabbing pain in my mouth is infuckingsane.
so.... DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW OF A GREAT DENTIST ON THE JERSEY SHORE???? that takes aetna dental PPO????
