okay this post will have a few layers.... the most important layer is the last part you'll read
first off, i'm living on about 4 hours sleep over the past week. had the flu for most of the week... and thus, my addiction to cherry-flavoured nyQuil is back and better than ever. oh yes. mmmmmmmmmmm....
i picked up 2 new clients this week... and have been designing like a chicken with its head cut off... wait... um... oh hell, you know what i meant.
thanksgiving was great - went to my godsister's house for the day and she's got my favourite kid in the world - seriously, this 4 year old is the best ever... cute as heck, funny as hell, manners to die for, really swell kid.
saw The Queen with one of my ex-boyfriends on Friday night.. was supposed to go back out with him on saturday, but the flu reared it's sniffly head once again - apparently it wanted to ruin my weekend.
that said..... here's some important stuff... TBS sent me previews of two of their new shows that are on this season...
10 ITEMS OR LESS
one, 10 Items or Less, premiered last night. maybe it's me, but, yesterday afternoon when i was sitting down with the preview dvd, i had an open mind and tried to give it a chance. i tried.
here's the thing, i love Curb Your Enthusiasm, i love The Office. But, i just couldn't get into 10 Items. In fact, I didn't even keep the first episode on --- so, perhaps this review is a little unfair.
Wait... no, i wound up watching the premiere at 11pm last night (monday) on TBS and i figured "well, maybe i was just tired and cranky earlier and didn't find things funny". That wasn't it. I sat thru through the half hour and it didn't hold my attention, it annoyed me.
I will, however, say that there were a few lines in it where I chortled, nay, chuckled.
To be fair, I will sit down with a few more of the episodes that were sent and see if I get sucked in... perhaps yesterday was an off day. I will admit that it took me a little while to become addicted to Curb Your Enthusiasm, so, who knows...
10 ITEMS OR LESS REVIEW: Inconclusive due to Flu & Annoyance. First Thoughts: "Oh cripes, I have to sit through this?"
on the other hand.............. Premiering TONIGHT at 10pm est / 9pm c on TBS is My Boys
Let me preface this by saying, even IF Jim Gaffigan was NOT in the show, I would watch My Boys. But, since he IS in the show, there's a higher chance that I will sit and watch the show every week. Before I delve into this review, I just want to put this out into the universe, My Boys NEEDS to have more Jim Gaffigan.
The show, to me, is just a really great, funny, truthful, pleasant (not "pleasant" in a "Oh, he's got a good personality" type of pleasant. Wait. Did that make sense?). Anyway, I really liked the show. I sat though all the previews back to back - and was actually pissed off that there were only a few episodes that I was able to watch on the dvd.
PJ (played by Jordana Spiro) is actually a decent character. Okay, let me rewind... premise of the show is a chick (a sportswriter based in Chicago) who is mainly surrounded by a group of friends who are all guys. Well, there's one other friend who is a girl... a girly girl (played by Kellee Stewart). But other than that cloud of perfume and heels, it's pretty much chock full of testosterone. Going back to PJ, actually, she didn't annoy me. Now, being a woman whose friends are 95% men (mentally, boys.) I can relate to her character and how she acts. Seems like a good egg - translation: I did not feel the desire to bitch slap her. She was likeable.
The Boys. Ladies, I am just saying, you might want to tune into the show. PJ's friends - her boys - consist of Jamie Kaler (Mike), Kyle Howard (Bobby), Reid Scott (Brendan) and Michael Bunin (Kenny). The one "built-in" friend is her brother Andy (played by Jim Gaffigan) who is the married one in the group. Unfortunately, we don't see Gaffigan as much as we should. His talent needs to be utilized much more than it is. I'm just sayin'.
So, what have we learned, kids? Yes. You need to watch (or set yourtivo/dvr/vcr doohickey) TONIGHT at 10pm est / 9pm c on TBS the premiere of MY BOYS.
By the way, even Gigglemom sat down and enjoyed this show. I love my mother to death, but, she can be a very hard sell. The fact that this show has been stamped with the Gigglemom Seal of Approval means something.
MY BOYS REVIEW: WATCH THE SHOW TONIGHT. Come back here and let me know what you thought of it. Will you watch it again next week?
