well, i drove to the reservoir... only to find out that they had some sort of police investigation going on and it was closed... rather than say "well, it's God's way of saying don't exercise", i headed down to the Spring Lake Boardwalk.
I parked at the end... and walked...
i can make it to the end.
i think.
i mean, i'm only walking.
why am i wheezing?
nice waves out there today. beautiful out. jeezuz, how far have i walked?
okay, i can walk fast past this lady with the cane.
i think.
jeezuz she must have just eaten a power bar, why's she walking so fast?
am i having a heart attack?
how far have i walked so far?
okay, i've hit the first pavillion... keep going. you can make it to belmar. wait. it seems so much closer in the car. what the hell?
okay, take that lady with the cane, i've passed you now, eat my dust!
jeezuz how far is this boardwalk? never used to be this long.
i can't even see the gates to belmar.
oh, whew, i've made it to the pool (there's a pool on the boardwalk)
okay. screw it. don't wear yourself out, erin... belmar's another mile. turn around.
crap. you mean i have to walk back to the car?
yes.
mother of......
ANYWAY..... THAT is the basic gist of my first "training session"
i wound up driving from where i started to where i turned around and then drove back to see how far i walked.
2.8 miles... which, hey, i will accept that. it's better than nothing.
then i went home and had a bacon & egg sammich.
