QUICK THOUGHTS
April 23, 2007 12:05 AM

just a couple of thoughts....

1] Alec Baldwin is my hero. I am sick of hearing about how parents need to pussyfoot around. when he says "straighten you out" - good. she's an 11 (or 12) year old kid. i know when i was that age i was starting to get a bit of an attitude (it didn't reeeeeeeeally blossom till i was 15) but all of these folks who are saying he's dangerous and has rage issues and should go to parenting classes, jeezuz. knock it off. i'm actually for people bringing the Belt and Wooden Spoon back into play (note: i am not a parent... and the more i watch SuperNanny, the more my uterus cowers in the corner with anxiety attacks. but i'll be damned if a personal voicemail to my future kid gets aired and they're burning me in effigy. believe me, IF i have a kid, i am pretty much willing to bet the farm that there will be some verbal fights... it's in my blood - sort of a tradition through the generations)

2] Donald Trump is a tool - I had been a fan of The Apprentice since the beginning... alas, THIS season tanked and the finale tonight was pathetic... actually, i didn't care about one single contestant the entire season... i don't care if he had fireworks. the jackhole needs to shut his pie hole... OR i suggest Alec Baldwin head over there and straighten Trump out. You're Fired? Hell no. Always Be Closing.

3] Virginia Tech. I'm still saddened over this and wish I was a Hokie instead of a University of the Arts Art-vark (yes. we were the Art-varks.)

4] Reality Show... as I stated in #2 (appropriate number for the topic) I thought the Apprentice was gawd-awful. ON THE OTHER HAND - tuesday nights at 10pm - my NEW favourite show is Deadliest Catch

and, on that note, i need to pass out.

Whatchoosayin'?? (7 yapped)

Gigs, Right on about Alex Baldwin. I mean, maybe he shouldn't have called her a pig..but all in all, what's the big deal...he's a child abuser? Oh really? I wonder what my mom would be called, she called me those things at that age, while beatin the crap out of me with a house shoe..and I don't even think she was that bad. Okay maybe the shoe part and that I'm partially nuts. But still.

If the girl's being a brat while dissin her dad, he should straighten her ass out by scolding her nd putting her ass on restriction..she's a little too old for a spaken..but if she kept on doing so, he should get the switch out. He was hilarious...and kind of sexy too.

Cornelia Marie, I like Phil as well. He had quite a few problems last week (on the show; technically that happened months ago). His younger son seems to be a bit of a jackass.

Speaking of jackasses, Blake has turned out to be quite a tool as the captain of the Maverick.

Re: Baldwin

Cheers!

Everyone knows that teen/tween girls can be completely evil. Add that to the stress of divorce and yes, Dad may just explode. Parents (I'm not one, either) are people too and if under that kind of stress and aggravation the WORST thing you say is "selfish pig" - well, I think things will be okay.

since becoming a parent, my philosophies about parenting have changed. i used to be of the mind that discipline, the way i knew it, (some forms of physical and verbal 'engagement') were just fine. now, i see it as abuse. i personally think that alec baldwin and kim basinger are sick fucks. their kid is going to be fucked for a very long time because of her parents' inability to place the child's welfare in front of their own egos.

children can easily be disciplined without verbal or physical abuse. instilling the 'Fear of God' into a child is being lazy (IMHO). it takes some patience and mental gymnastics, but you can easily outwit a child, especially if both parents are working from the same template. there are PLENTY of things in life that children value that can be removed, changed or altered to let them know that they are being disciplined. it's really not that difffcult, but you have to have committment.

in my opinion, chidren that are out of control have parents that are out of control. children need to know their limits and those limits don't have to be enforced with physical, verbal and mental abuse. a kid doesn't know any better, they are still figuring out life, they are vulnerable but most of all, they are incredibly impressionable.

anger begets anger. fear begets fear. love begets love.

i know what lesson i want to teach my kid.

and now, i step off my soapbox.

[note from GC: good to see you back and commenting! of course, i'm still going to take my birth control pills for now.]

Re: the Alec Baldwin situation, his ex (Kim Bassinger) released the tape to the media in defiance of a court order. In other words, she chose to take a private family matter to the media with the intent to damage Alec's reputation. Alec got mad and said some stuff in a fit of anger; Kim's actions were cold and calculated. If you ask me, that's the worst thing that's happened in this whole publicity mess.

Oh, and in conclusion,Deadliest Catch rocks! Go Team Northwestern!

[note from GC: i like the Northwestern - but i am pulling for the Cornelia Marie as well]

The media never stated what precipitated Mr. Baldwin's tirade. Perhaps she's got as foul a mouth as her father and used it. On the other hand, when I was growing up, I was called worse things than a "rude little pig" by my mom when she was angry. Sounds like a great big hairy case of tug-o-kid.

On a more somber note, my thoughts and prayers are with the students, faculty, alumni, and families of Virginia Tech, and as a parent of a child affected by autism, I would like to state that if in fact this young man had been diagnosed with autism, he is NOT what autism is about. Our children are exceptionally gifted and many have learned to be affectionate and how to socialize appropriately, but only through early intervention and lots of hard work by their parents and families - not by shunning the "label" and ignoring their needs. Just my two cents - thanks Erin!

thank goodness you didn't give the ending away on the Apprentice. I missed it last night and it's been dvr'd for me at home. :) I still have to watch it, no matter how bad the out come was... I've come this far to see it through! ;)
