SAVE THE GIRLS... The Sequel??
January 13, 2008 4:28 PM

hmmmmm... so, back in 2002, i raised over $2500 (via friends, family and mostly via this blog - as well as the site i'd set up years ago "save-the-girls.com") for the Susan G. Komen / AVON 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk

That year, while I raised the cash, I never wound up walking it because of a lot of weird things going on with Pallotta Teamworks which had been in charge of running the events.

I just saw an ad on the teevee for the 3 Day... it's back. It doesn't seem to be Pallotta or AVON affiliated anymore

I went to their site: the3Day.org

there isn't a New York walk.

But there IS a Philly walk in October ---- OOOOORRRR in August, there's a 3 Day walk in Boston (hmmmm... Boston in August, I may die... but, on the way, I may have CPR given by a red-headed Boston fireman... that doesn't sound too shabby... well, except for the "death" part.)

yes... i am toying with finally walking this puppy.

Since 2001/2002, there've been even more women that I know who've been diagnosed with breast cancer (when I signed up before, I basically only had my grandmother who'd died of it when my dad was 10 years old - that was my only reference.)

on a fitness note, the Boston one is in August around the week that I am focused on hitting my goal weight of 139 lbs.

If I keep training and losing weight, I should be in decent enough shape where I won't die after I receive the CPR (If a boston fella saves my life and has red hair... i MIGHT be willing to overlook any red sox affinity he may have.)

Whattay'all think?

About 2 hours ago I'd been thinking of doing the St. Baldrick's shaving of my head, but, I think the 3 day might be better.

Whatchoosayin'?? (5 yapped)

Although shaving your head would be HIGHLY entertaining....I vote for the three day :)

GC--I say go for it. . .I lost my mom and my mother-in-law 29 days apart to this horrible disease about 3 years ago. My neighbor, a 35-year old widowed mother of 3 just went thru the battle. Every person who takes even one step to help fight this is a winner in my eyes!!

I vote for the 3 Day. Any chance of meeting up with new, hot, red headed suitors should definitely be taken!

Well, if you're taking votes. I vote for both! Doesn't heat escape from your head? Just think of how much cooler you will be if you walk without the extra heat kept in your body from your hair!!!

In all seriousness though, a little goes a long way for all of the causes out there. You do a great job getting the word out.

I vote for St. Baldrick's!

It's one thing to do a walk, but as you know from already having shaved your head once before, the meaning behind shaving one's head is to stand in solidarity with those, and in this case, CHILDREN who are fighting the disease. What's also great about St. Baldrick's is, unlike a walk, once you've shaved your head, you'll be walking around FOR WEEKS, if not months, with a freshly shorn head - thus giving you countless opportunities to 1) continue to spread the word that cancer is the number one disease-killer of kids in the U.S. and 2) you'll be able to raise continued funds to support life-saving research efforts to improve the treatments given and better the lives of these courageous children.

So, regardless of what you chose to do for all those touched by cancer, I thank you for your support of the cause in general and wish the best in your fundraising efforts, which ever route you chose to go! Good luck!
