oh yeah, so i went to the gym today...
might i add that my legs were SCREAMING at me this morning...
tara (the personal trainer) had me sweating like a freak on friday... and there was this lower body move that was pretty challenging...
first there's the step thing (you know what the step thing is, right? like in step class.)
then there was the 6 pound medicine ball that i had to hold.
so standing parallel to the step i had to step up on the side with one foot, raise the other foot/knee up and also raise the medicine ball up in the air over my head.
did this 12 times on the right. then 12 on the left.... then did another 2 sets of them as well (in between doing 3 sets of alternating lunges while holding a 10 pound plate/weight thing)
was i saying the other day that i thought that she was going too easy with me?
i shall retract that.
ANYWAY...
today.
as i said, my legs were growling at me (i'd also done 36 crazy squats with weights yesterday too.)
sooooooo...
i took it somewhat easy today... okay, compared to what i've BEEN doing, i took it really easy.
I only did the elliptical today.
I'd set a goal of 18:30 minutes... but this past sunday i'd set a weekly goal of hitting 20 minutes on the elliptical by THIS sunday
i write in a book called The Ultimate Workout Log - and it has a Weekly Wrap-up and a Goals for the week area to write what you've accomplished and expect to accomplish.
i actually dig this log. i've tried others in the past but this one has room for a bunch of exercises and notes on each page.
where was i?
oh right... blah blah blah set goals. said 18:30 minutes, but then i still had a little left in me and i knew that i wasn't going to be able to make it to the gym tomorrow (at least at the moment i am not planning on it because i have to head to my godsister's house at noon)
what i wound up doing was the elliptical the regular way - as if i was walking forward. did that for 2 min. then i wound up moving my legs BACKWARDS for a minute.
that sucks!
but i then went back to moving forward and after 2 more minutes i did the backwards thing for another minute.
holy HELL!!!! THAT HURTS!!!
went forward again for another minute or two, then went backwards for 1 more minute...
OW OW OW OW...
then i went back to going forward for a little while... then got the nerve to go backwards again. did that for 30 seconds before going forward again for another minute or so.
did another 30 seconds backwards.
went forward again.
then saw that i was already up to 19 minutes... so at 19:00 I went backwards again for the last minute...
YEP... I ACHIEVED MY WEEKLY GOAL OF 20 minutes on the ELLIPTICAL!!!
aaaaaaaaand i did 5 MINUTES BACKWARDS on the dang thing.
i didn't do any weight training OR the treadmill.
but i DID do the plank for 3 sets of 30 seconds (i'm amazed that i've gotten strong enough to do 30 seconds at a time. it's pretty cool.)
here's the weird thing... i went over my calorie count (1370 calories allotted per day) by 100 calories... and i really want to go to the gym in the morning. i'm going to give my body a day of rest (i worked out Weds / Thurs (cardio) / Fri and the cardio today.)
okay. i'm hitting the hay.
i am so not going to be able to walk tomorrow.

Welcome to the YapFest (13 yapped)
sounds like you are getting you life together (paying past due bills!!, exercising!!) perhaps next you will move out from your mom's houise at 37/38 and begin living your life. good luck
[note from GC: perhaps you would realize that i am taking care of my mother who has COPD, emphysema, congestive heart failure and is on oxygen... perhaps you should read the past 8 years of my site and you might realize that i moved back home in 2003 to do this after living in the city for 8 years (barring the 6 months i lived at home in 2001 when my mother was recovering from abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery). and as far as past due bills, they were my mother's. and i'm paying her fucking mortgage. so maybe before you say i am not living my life, perhaps you should take other things into consideration.I've already had to come to the frigging conclusion that this IS my life... and until the horrible day that my mother passes away, then i am frigging stuck here. ]
These long descriptive gym summaries are just so captivating to read! So, you're up to 18 minutes on the elliptical...wow! I will be sure to log that in my journal.
...love ya ;)
[note from GC: actually, if you read it, i am up to 20 minutes on elliptical. log THAT. and i am not forcing anyone to read my site...]
Hey GC,
Don't get upset, I wasn't trying to be mean (although I was a bit sarcastic). I realize you are not forcing me to read your site, I like doing so. Consider it just constructive criticism!
20 min is great! keep it up ;)
G.C.,
I GIVE YOU TONS OF CREDIT, NOT ONLY IS IT VERY DIFICULT TO DEAL WITH A NON COMPLIANT PATIENT, IT IS EVEN WORSE IF IT'S YOUR PARENT. MY MOM SOUNDS LOTS LIKE YOURS. I SPENT A LOT OF TIME IN ER'S REHAB CENTERS ETC. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT WHEN SHE PASSED AWAY. I FELT GUILTY THAT I DID NOT DO ENOUGH. (I TOOK CARE OF HER AS YOUR'E DOING WITH YOUR MOM.) IT IS TWO YEARS LATER AND I STILL MISS HER TERRIBLY. I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU AS FOR THE IGNORAMUS WITH THE GET A LIFE COMMENTS...TELL HER TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR LOSER GIRL.
CATHI
Delurking to say that parental issues aside (which is not really a non-issue for you)...the elliptical is a scary ass machine. I couldn't go five minutes on an elliptical when I started working out on one. It took me months to work up to 20 minutes or a half hour. I never felt better physically once I worked up to it though. Not saying I'm there anymore. But stick to it! And be proud of what you've accomplished so far.
