furiousball: heh, thanks - i'll have to see how well they go over. I'm selling more "NObama '08" shirts than this one. I may take this down in a couple of days
Honey, you know i love you, but this is a bit much. I'll preface by saying that this is all my opinion, but isn't all this reaction over Wright a little knee jerk? I simply don't understand when Americans get all fired up when (God forbid) someone has an opinion that America has perhaps erred in her past.
The guy (again, my opinion) had some very valid and factual points about America's 'activities' in the past. We are NOT a perfect nation by any stretch of the imagination. How many innocent people have we killed in Iraq unnecessarily? Why can't we be criticized for that? Why is it that America is always held unaccountable for our actions to others, but the minute something happens AGAINST us, we unleash the wrath? It's been a double standard for a LONG time.
I like Obama FOR the reason that he acknowledges that we have fucked up continually, especially when it comes for foreign policy and that we have to make amends. This country is in a precarious position. We are no longer the number one economy in the world, and are teetering on a nasty recession. There are countless other issues that I could list that should cause us to pause and think about our role in the world. The playing field has leveled a bit. We HAVE to rely on the rest of the world for our stability and if we continue to think that we are the 'high and mighty America' and that we are beyond reproach, we're going to get our asses bitch slapped. We need to be a bit more humble and create solid relationships with the rest of the world and (again, my opinion) that means we have to take some responsibility for our actions.
I'm not saying that everything Rev. Wright said was correct, or that I agree with it, but he merely voiced an OPINION. WHO THE FUCK CARES!!! If someone criticizes our country, why are they made out to be monsters?!!! This country was FOUNDED on that free speech. It's what keeps the people in control of the country (theoretically). We (as a people) SHOULD be criticizing our government constantly. But to reiterate, it's one person's opinion! We have to stop freaking out over this.
A spiritual advisor, or not, that's all it is. Do you agree with everything YOUR pastor says? Do you BELIEVE everything your pastor says? (I'm not directing this at anyone in particular). Hell, I don't believe everything my parents say, let alone my spiritual advisor. You take from them what works for you and you discard what doesn't. You find your own way.
I'm simply saying that the free association that everyone is making in this instance is insane. It's the same bullshit that was created out of Obama's middle name being 'Hussein' and the photo of him wearing traditional Kenyan attire. Fear mongering at it's finest.
So i ask you GC, why would he wish he were a Muslim? What exactly did Obama do wrong? I'm curious.
neilv: personally i don't wish he were a muslim. basically, i wanted to make some more cash by slapping it on a tee shirt. that's the driving force behind the shirt.
of course, i don't care for the rev. wright's comments at all. my priest doesn't growl like that at the alter.
Well said Neilv. I found this to be a bit too much also. I mean I get you're in it for the cash but it's really a dirty way of making a few bucks. Even with the 'bitch' shirts.. I don't know call me and my 28 whole years on earth old school but I thought the president was supposed to have a bit of tact and class. It's like how we've gone from bleeping out curse words and ass shots on tv to these days of dildo informercials on @ 3 am. I think Obama carries himself well as a man and people are just grasping for straws to find something they can attack. Such as yourself.
Jennie: Hey, I wasn't calling him a Muslim or bringing up the Hussein thing. Personally I do not like Obama. I find him to be kind of arrogant. If things turn out where he's the nominee, I will vote for him, but right now, I am not Pro-Obama. Not for nothing, but there are a LOT of other shirts on cafepress that are MUCH WORSE when it comes to Obama --- and I did not design them.)
As for the bitch shirts, good lord, you're harping on those? As for the "president having tact and class" --- you do realize that Hillary DOES have both, right? Exactly what channels are YOU watching at 3am where they're showing dildo infomercials? Because I haven't quite seen those. (And what the fark does that have to do with hte price of tea in China?)
Whatchoosayin'?? (6 yapped)
haha, timely
