Whatchoosayin'?? (3 yapped)

Did you find it a bit awkward running into an ex at the bar?

That happened to me once after I broke up with a girl that I dated in college for a year and a half. We had broken up about a month before after I found out that what she told me was her two-year-old brother actually turned out to be her two-year-old son. So I was on my first date with this new girl that I had met in school a few days earlier. It was actually a double-date. I brought along a friend of mine and she brought along a friend of hers. So who's the first person I see when I walk into the place? The bouncer. Who's the second person I see? My ex. What I found odd was that she was there without her little brother, I mean, son. When we were dating, her brother, I mean, son had to go everywhere with us. Not that I minded, I love kids. Anyway, I got shit-faced, made an ass out of myself, got kidnapped by my friend, thrown into the back of his car and driven down to his house at the shore. When I got back to school the following morning, there was a note on my car from the girl I dated the night before who said that she thought I was a nice guy, but that she didn't think things would work out between us...

Fast forward a few years, my same friend and I are out celebrating St. Patrick's Day this time with his girlfriend and a friend of hers. She was an interesting date. All night long, she was trying to bounce quarters into my beer. Looking up from my boredom, I glanced out the front window of the establishment at the line of people waiting to get into the bar and lo and behold, who should I see but my ex-girlfriend again (and again without her brother, I mean, son). To top it off, I just happened to be wearing this Aran sweater that she had gotten for me for Christmas one year. So I asked my friend to turn around and look at the line and see if he recognizes anyone. He spins back around and says, "Holy shit! Is that Colleen?" I said, "Yup". After she walked in, she saw me, smiled, waved and went about her business. I just kept drinking my beer, accidentally swallowing a quarter...

In a bit of irony, the girl I went out with on that first double-date now lives in the same town as me and our kids are even in the same class. As a matter of fact, my son invited her son to his birthday party next weekend. We run into each other every so often. Just think of what could've been if not for that one fateful night...

nick: small world with your story!

as far as running into an ex --- no. it wasn't weird. i haven't had any (or too many) relationships where it'd be awkward.

hell, one night at Leggett's in manasquan - about 10 years ago - I was there and 13 exes were strewn around the bar. So, if one could survive that, one could survive a brief hello from a round-headed red-headed ex.

13 exes in one room? My head would've exploded.

I don't think my exes number that many. Let's see, there was Bridget, Annie, Aimee, Doreen, Deborah, Colleen, Donna, Aimee (again), Alexandra and Andrea (twins!) and Aimee (again). That's weird - I never realized that I only dated girls whose names started with the first four letters of the alphabet. That explains why Erin and I never dated. It would be interesting to see what would happen if we put them all in one room. I'm off to Leggetts!
