12 steps to skinny?

so it's 3:35am and i am laying here with a stomach ache (too much food) and Beri is on the couch with me licking my shins she's a good pup... and i am thankful that she isn't jumping on my tummy.

just finished watching 2 hours of Deadliest Catch (i SO love that show)

i had 2 pints of ice cream and more tortellini with vodka sauce for dinner.

i've been paying monthly for Weight Watchers... and also the gym. I'm toying with the idea of going to Overeaters Anonymous. You know, it's a 12 step program like AA.

I could probably get a lot of material from going there (I've already used my WW material and AA material --- i've never been in AA. I know "people" though.)

See in AA, I think it's Step 4 that is where you have to make amends.

Usually that's when you go to someone and apologize for some horrible thing that you did while you were drinking/drugging like "I'm sorry I drove over your cat while I was downing that fifth of Jack" kinda stuff.

What would amends be for OA?

• I'm sorry I ransacked your freezer and ate all of your Chunky Monkey

• I apologize for borrowing your favorite jeans and splitting the arse on them

• I am reeeeeally sorry about your dog. I didn't see him and he was really small.

• I know that you needed to bring all 13 dozen brownies to the bake sale for your child and I am really sorry that you needed t go to the bakery for replacements.

• I'm so sorry. On Thanksgiving. I thought you had bought individual turkeys for everyone - I thought you had more.


okay, as I said, it's almost 4 in the morning and I think I am in a partial diabetic sugar coma, so, forgive the Step 4 jokes if you're offended --- apparently I've been offending folks lately with stuff (not anything to do with food.)

So there's the thought of going to OA, but the meeting is on Friday morning at 10am. The WW meeting that I used to go to is on Mondays at 10am and it's difficult for me to get up at such a crazy early time (yes. i can hear half of you groan - give me a break, i spent 10 years waking up between 4 and 5am to get to work)

The Monday 10am meeting is good because the leader is great. The 7pm one, while the time is decent (except for the high rate of excuses I can think of for not going at that hour.) the leader is, I think, insane. It's not a proven fact, but, I know them when I see 'em.

Oh by the way, I mentioned the stomachache earlier. That has nothing to do with that Colonix stuff I'd bought.

I did 2 days with the fiber and the tea and the parasite pills (again, i never had parasites... not that I know of anyway.) --- so I did 2 days and nothing was wrong or anything, but then I had to go to dinner with the girls on Saturday, so I didn't take it that day --- I was afraid of being at the restaurant and all of a sudden making a mad dash and splash for the ladies' room.

then the next few days I was up late and slept in as well... so didn't do the colonix stuff.

anyhooooooo... i probably should hit the hay.

You know, there is a live-in weight loss and exercise facility in Durham, NC called "Structure House" (www.structurehouse.com).

As the name implies, it's a 12-hour day of structured meals, exercise programs, and classes in topics like nutrition and self-imporvement. A huge gym, an Olympic-sized pool, trails through the woods. It's a beautiful and relaxing place, and they even give you an on-campus condo/apartment to live in during your stay.

Most people stay there for a month or more, but even two weeks will put you on the right track.

I went down there in January 2004 weighing 431 pounds. After a month, I had lost 69 pounds. By continuing to follow their program at home, I had lost a total of 170 pounds by January 2005.

It's a bit of a stretch financially (about $2500 per week), but think of it as an investment in the future.

The 12-step principle for food addiction is not something I am personally familiar with but I have told my OA friends that I'd rather have have my struggles than theirs. I can NOT USE - no matter what. I couldn't imagine how hard my recovery would have been if I had to use 3 - 5 times a day in a controlled fashion. Nope I don't envy the OA people at all ...
