so, i wound up having to get 2 tires and also had $110 service (oil change/filters/fluids/etc.)
but the tires were about $175 each.
*sigh*
he's perfect now, but, still, that's a huge effing chunk of cash that i really didn't want to part with at this time.
so, since Phooka went through the ordeal of having a blown tire and a leaky tire, not to mention having strange men rummaging around his innards, i wound up getting him a set of checkerboard valve stem caps.
