well, i'm going to have a neuromuscular therapy massage done today at noon.
from what i've googled, it's most likely not going to be a relaxing (in the traditional sense) type of massage.

Hey GC...
I had that for a problem with my wrist/thumb. They do a deep tissue massage, and then I had what was called a "nerve glide". Basically, the torturist...er...therapist..put me on my back, grabbed my outstretched arm at the hand, pressed on the trigger point in my wrist, and then proceed to manipulate the tissue with her thumb as she pulled my arm up and down as far as it would go.
It hurt like hell, but it worked.
I also had the therapy for the car accidents. It only really worked while they were doing it, and as soon as they stopped the pain came back. One therapist told me that the muscles are like rubber bands, and until they get pliable they snap back into spasm every time. Mine never did get pliable - not during therapy, anyway. They are now, but that's due to the Yoga.
Good luck, though. Hope it works for you.

Great site. Good info.
If you have to do it, you might as well do it right.
