isn't it great to be alive????

March 22nd, 2001

sorry I haven't yapped on this thing in a week or more... busy busy busy girl I am... well, not really. just haven't felt like doing the crap on my site... blah

did go to a ww meeting yesterday during lunch, found out i lost another 5 pounds... for a 7 week total of 12.6 pounds!!! woo... this is working... it's ridiculous!!!! yay, me!!!

totally gearing up for april 6 & 7... the boys will be playing Irving Plaza...

when I say 'the boys' i mean none other than Cowboy Mouth... from New Orleans Louisiana!!!

what?!? you have no idea who they are??? *sigh* what am i gonna do with you people??

ok... here is my story about my love of the mouth...

for me, it began in a cramped bar called the Wetlands here in NYC... back in the fall (september, i think) of 94. i was dating some guy jeff, i think his name was from down the shore and he said "there's a band called Hootie and the Blowfish, I've never heard of them, but they were on letterman last night and were pretty good, let's go see them"

fine. so we made the trek up there... ah, back when i was 24 years old... so young, so innocent (har har)

there was a band that opened for them, and i remember seeing 20 people or so going nuts for them, and felt my right foot tapping along to a song about not "two-stepping no more"...

no it's not country. there are strains throughout though... it's a mix of rock, and oh, heck, i can't explain it, they are in an entirely different category all together. but, what got me was the voices and the lyrics and just the overall attitude of these guys...

in a year when kurt cobain was pissed off at the world and offed himself, there was cowboy mouth with fred leblanc screaming "isn't it great to be alive!?!?!?!"

i would have to say... yes. yes. very much so.

and i have seen them ever since, every time they have come up this way... even made it down to jazzfest in new orleans back in 1999 and saw them there (what an experience... up north here, not too many people i know have heard of the boys and when i was down there it was as if 10,000 close friends were standing up dancing and singing along with them.

i am not explaining the experience well enough.

i have gone by myself to many shows and felt as if i know everyone in the audience... there are no high and mighty folks there, check the ego at the door and have fun and do the pogo (no moshing, kids... they even were doing that at celene dion shows, so it's old)

whatever... all i know is that when i step out of a cowboy mouth show, smiling so damned wide and feel like my cheeks are gonna explode... and am covered in sweat, a good hearty 'hey-this-is-a-darned-good-feeling-about-everything' type of sweat... a feeling like you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it overcomes me (no, not like i am manic or am jesus)... it's a show that recharges you mentally and you just want to go around grabbing people and hug strangers while looking deep into their eyes and saying "Isn't it GREAT to BE ALIVE?!?!?!? ARE YOU WITH ME?!?!?!"

anyway, there's so much more i could say about Cowboy Mouth... and yes, i sound like a groupie... whatever... some might think of it as more of a disciple (that might be pushing it, yes...)

but you REALLY ought to come down to Irving Plaza on April 6 & 7... i will be in the front, near the stage, dancing and singing my ass off (yes, another perk about their shows is i usually lose between 5 10 lbs in water weight!!! and there's TWO shows in a row, BABY!!!! 2 shows!!!!) - so stop by and say hello!!!!!

g'night, poppets.
